The Coward

Amitabha (Soumitra Chatterjee) is a successful screenwriter whose car breaks down in a small town. Stranded, he accepts the hospitality of a tea planter (Haradhan Bandopadhyay) only to discover that the planter's wife Karuna (Madhabi Mukherjee) is the girl he once loved and also let down. Emboldened by his current success, Amitabha asks Karuna to run away with him, but the past perhaps cannot be recaptured.
